Louvre Wheelchair Access and Rental Planning

A Louvre visit involves more than getting from one gallery to another. Your journey from the hotel, the entrance route and the return trip all matter. This guide separates the museum's accessibility services from renting a wheelchair for the rest of your stay in Paris.

Check the Louvre's official access information

The Louvre recommends booking a time slot in advance. Its accessibility page explains free admission for eligible disabled visitors and an accompanying person, with supporting documents, as well as priority access. Check the museum's current requirements before arranging your visit; renting a wheelchair does not itself establish eligibility.

The museum offers wheelchair loans in exchange for identification and assistance with route planning. See the official Louvre accessibility information for the conditions and available services.

Bringing a manual or electric wheelchair

The Louvre confirms that visitors may bring personal manual or electric wheelchairs. Some lifts are narrow, so unusually large equipment should be checked with the museum in advance. Gallery closures can also affect your route. Read the Louvre's guidance on personal wheelchairs.

Do not assume this guidance automatically covers every mobility scooter. If you plan to bring a scooter, ask the museum about your exact model and dimensions before booking your equipment.

Museum loan or a wheelchair for your Paris stay?

If you only need a chair inside the museum, start by checking its own loan service. If you also need equipment between your accommodation, transport and other visits, a separate rental may be more practical. These are different services: Azur PMR does not reserve a museum loan chair or an admission slot for you.

Our Paris wheelchair rental collection includes manual, transport and electric options. A transport wheelchair needs an accompanying person to push it. Read our wheelchair comparison guide before deciding.

Organise the journey, not just the galleries

  • Confirm a step-free route from your accommodation to the selected entrance.
  • If using a taxi or transfer, tell the provider the equipment's dimensions and whether you need to remain seated during travel.
  • Leave time for arrival procedures and getting your bearings.
  • Choose a short list of galleries rather than a tightly packed schedule.
  • Plan breaks and keep the return journey in mind when arranging your rental times.

For current transport accessibility, consult the operator directly. A nearby metro station on a map is not a guarantee of a step-free journey.

Arrange your rental before your museum day

Azur PMR offers delivery and collection at Paris hotels, apartments and residences, subject to availability and access. Read our delivery information and select your dates to see the rental price before payment. Do not assume delivery inside the Louvre is included: arrange an agreed accommodation delivery point with us.
